Market Commentary

October 2025 shattered “Uptober” expectations, with Bitcoin declining 3.9%, its first negative October since 2018 amid U.S.-China trade escalations and a protracted government shutdown. BTC surged to a record $126,200 on $3.61 billion in ETF inflows, only to crash 19% to $102,000 on tariff threats, wiping out $500 billion in market cap and sparking $19 billion in liquidations. It closed at $109,600, buoyed by de-escalation and Fed easing. Meanwhile Long-Term Holder distribution accelerated to –104,000 BTC/month, underscoring profit-taking into softening demand, yet institutional resilience prevailed: 75% illiquid supply, record-low exchange reserves, and a $5–10 billion corporate “wall of money” intact. Altcoins lagged (CCi30 –11.1%), though DeFi thrived. The Fed’s 25 bps cut to 3.75–4% countered 4.3% unemployment, but US government shutdown stalled alt-ETF approvals heightened uncertainty. Bitcoin’s YTD of +17.1% affirms a maturing market poised for November’s historical +8.2% median return and deeper rate cuts.
